Yaz Lancaster
“Warm, crunchy, [and] beautifully heart-wrenching” characterizes the work of interdisciplinary artist Yaz Lancaster (they/them/theirs). They are primarily focused on the representation & support of marginalized/underprivileged identities in the arts, genuine modes of collaboration, and practices aligned with relational aesthetics & the everyday. Always looking to expand their artistry, Yaz performs in a wide variety of settings and attempts something new in every compositional project. Their concentrated & empirical work almost always reckons with a specific influence like politics of identity & liberation, poetry, natural phenomena or landscapes of memory. Yaz has had the privilege & opportunity to build community with many wonderful artists, and to present/perform in the US, Canada, Czechia and Trinidad & Tobago. They hold degrees in violin performance & poetry from New York University, and are continuing their studies in violin at the University of Toronto. Yaz loves art history/museums, chess & bubble tea. Their new work, ‘wind_down_2’ will be workshopped on September 15th and premiered on September 30th.
