Second Anniversary Concert

  • MISE-EN_PLACE 341 Calyer Street Brooklyn, NY, 11222 United States (map)

Two years ago, in June 2020, we put together a GoFundMe to raise money to commission a few pieces written for solo double bass by Black composers. This small project led to the creation of Bass Players for Black Composers. In two years, we have commissioned 10 works for double and electric bass. Each of these works has their own uniquely beautiful identity and we are so happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with our composers to create something that we hope solidifies its place in the instrument’s repertory.

We are excited to host our second-ever live show to celebrate the second anniversary of our organization and support the continuity of our mission: to further expand and diversify the repertoire for double bass and to properly compensate and support Black artists. Please join us at MISE-EN_PLACE in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on June 6 at 7:30pm! This performance will include the world premiere of a work for solo double bass written by Wichita-based composer Daijana Wallace, in addition to performances of BPBC classics!

If you are unable to attend this performance, please consider donating to BPBC, a 501c3 tax-exempt organization. Your donation means that we can keep commissioning news works for years to come!
